Paarden House
Sometimes a kitchen renovation is exactly what’s required to overhaul and refresh your home. This client’s brief was to create a functional kitchen and laundry for their family with improved storage and to capitalise on the impressive views of their country property.
The layout of the kitchen was completely changed to a galley style to allow strong linear lines to lead the eye straight to the view beyond. Careful consideration was taken to tuck the full-height cabinetry into the corner so that the initial view as you walked in allowed for an uninterrupted view of the surrounding area.
Practical storage solutions such as the appliance with pocket doors and a pantry with sliding doors were selected to keep the walkways open at all times
The home is an older country-style house with a combination of new and vintage furnishings and architectural details. The kitchen reflects the outdoors with the dark, muted green cabinetry in a smooth finish, and nods to the history of the home with a pressed metal style tile splashback and transitional handles.
The laundry was designed to maximise bench space and storage space, with lowered overhead cabinetry, deep drawers and full-height cupboards. Textured timber grain cabinetry was introduced to reflect the open shelves surrounding the kitchen window and add visual height to the small space.
